Dear Ladies,
I've spent a lot of time thinking since attending the Churchwide Gathering of Presbyerian Women this summer with 2,400 other women from around the country and around the world. Why is Presbyterian Women so special to me? Why do we need this organization? What does PW do well? What could PW do better? As I wrote in this summer's Invitation to PW, I feel a special attachment to this organization and to the women who make it what it is. I am more and more convinced that we need PW because it offers women a way to connect with each other through scripture and through service. As we grow older, those connections become all the more meaningful - the scripture, the service, and the friendships forged through involvement in things that matter. Here are some things that matter ....
RUMMAGE SALE IS THE WEEK BEGINNING SUNDAY OCTOBER 4

BIBLE STUDY
PW sponsors and provides the Horizons Bible Study every year. Written by women, for women, these studies have provided women with a way to personally and corporately connect with scripture that is written by and for ... men. And particularly this study!
Joshua: A Journey of Faith looks at a Book that seems to be primarily about war and land-ownership. What can THOSE have to say to women? Written by a Syrian Christian, a women who currently serves as president of the Near East School of Theology in Lebanon, this study draws us into questions about life, leadership, the will of God, war and peace, human rights, justice, the meaning and value of worship, our personal relationship with God. Study guides are available through your Circle leader — call her and make arrangements to pick yours up. There will be some available at the September Third Wednesday Bible Study. The $6 cost is covered by our pledges.

MISSION AND SERVICE
Presbyterian Women list mission support, service, justice and peace as part of our purpose statement (see below). Here are some ways to participate with us in fulfilling our purpose.
FUNERAL RECEPTION HELPERS
We are working to organize a process for providing receptions for our families in times of loss and grief. Eunice Raar is heading a team of people who will be available to oversee these receptions. I said that PW could organize recruiting of servers and bakers. We are formally putting together a list of people who can be reached either by phone or by email. Many of you have expressed interest in helping. We have created a web-sign-up to help us keep track of who said they could do what. We have an online form that we will email separately - some of you will be able to fill out the form right in your email. The form is found
here. Or, if you don't like to fill in internet forms, just contact me (646.8078, cfischer50@gmail.com) and I'll sign you up.
We have also discussed having each Circle be available to serve (as they are able) for specified months. That can be discussed in your Circle Meeting. If you are an Associate, perhaps we could have you ASSOCIATED with a Circle for this purpose. All to be determined!
OPPORTUNITY GIVING
After the Fall Rummage Sale, we will have a good idea of how much money is available for Opportunity Giving Grant Requsts. Grant Requests are due October 11. If you know of a worthy organization, please have them apply. More information and forms are available here:
