AN INCLUSIVE, CARING COMMUNITY ....

Presbyterian Women at First Presbyterian Church in Birmingham are involved and active in many areas of the life of the church. You will find PW members in the choir, teaching church school, serving on committees, serving as Elders and Deacons, serving food, answering the phones, working on the grounds, cleaning the kitchen, visiting shut-ins, gathering with other women for Bible study and prayer.

PW is actively involved in supporting the mission of the church, at the local level as well as at the national level. Our benevolence giving last year totaled over $50,000. We fund much of our mission giving with our two annual rummage sales, but we also sponser an Alternative Christmas Bazaar which raises about $10,000 for represented mission work. Several offerings throughout the year also give women a connection to mission work in far-away places as well as projects close to home.

We meet monthly on the Third Wednesday of the month (September - May) for a pastor-led discussion of the PW Horizons Bible Study (this year, on the Book of Revelation). Three circles meet following the study. An evening circle, Esther Circle, meets in Fireside on the Third Tuesday of the month, and Martha Circle meets at noon in Fireside on the Third Thursday.

Project Day, our monthly hands-on mission work, meets on the Second Wednesday at 9:30 in Calvin Hall. There we work on collecting and constructing kits and items needed by local and international relief agencies. Sewing, knitting, crochet, organizing, shopping, collecting, assembling, ... all done in good company.

We hope that you will explore this website to find out more about what PW is doing.
