Rummage Sales

NEXT SALE IS THE FIRST FULL WEEK OF MAY, WITH WORK BEGINNING ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 2

Women's organizations of First Presbyterian Church have been holding rummage sales to raise funds for mission since 1906. Today's rummage sales happen twice yearly and fill the church with wonderful treasures, good food, and workers and shoppers who return year after year for the fun, the friendships, and the bargains. Our workers come from far and wide. One family makes it into a reunion time, flying from the west coast to spend the week with relatives and work at the rummage sale. Workers drive up from southern Ohio! One loyal worker, now living in Austria, and another living in France plan also plan visits to coincide with the Rummage Sale.

Available rooms of the church are transformed into boutiques selling toys, children's clothing, housewares, books, sporting goods, electronics (computers, tvs, coffee makers, cameras, etc.), women's clothing (skirts and slacks, blouses and sweaters, dresses, coats, lingerie), men's clothing (shirts, sweaters, slacks, suits), shoes for the family, linens, hats, purses, scarves, jewelry, and a popular department called the Stage which sells just about everything else. Also, the furniture department will be back this year thanks to a revitalized furniture pick-up committee.

Shoppers and workers alike enjoy the reasonably-priced food: soups, tuna or grilled cheese sandwiches, salads, cookies, and the famous Rummage Sale Carrot Cake.

The primary purpose of the rummage sales has always been mission. Funds generated by the twice-yearly rummage sales support local, national, and international mission projects. But in addition, usable items that do not sell during the sale are given to local charitable organizations.
